Active Nation Events
A number of Games Legacy Events for young people have recently been held by the Boys' Brigade and Youth Scotland.
In March, two events in Glasgow attracted over 385 young men from Boys Brigade Units across Scotland. A fun day at Pollock Park provided outdoor activities including rounders, soccer skills, relay races, treasure hunt, inflatables, netball, touch rugby, bungee runs and beat the goalie. Over in Bellahouston Park young men entered a cross country event. As part of the lead up to these events, Boys Brigade Units explored the number of BB ex-members who have been Commonwealth and Olympic Medalists and teams were designated as different Commonwealth Countries.
In Falkirk, Youth Scotland organised a day for young people to try new physical activities. 65 young people took part in a choice of 8 workshops. Taken by professional coaches, the sessions included Ultimate Frisbee, Tae Kwon Do, Rocketball, Rugby, Basketball, Gymnastic and Zumba amongst others. Each workshop lasted 35 minutes with the participants moving on to each activity after only a short break. The feedback from the day was really positive, with most of the young people labelling the overall day 'great'.
"I've never worked so hard", said one contestant. "I'm knackered, but that was brill. Please do it again."
Youth Scotland and the Boys' Brigade would like to thank all the volunteers and young people who helped to make the events a success.
