CareerSense Find Your Path

CareerSense Find Your Path was an employability programme for young people aged 16-24 based in Edinburgh, with 6 weeks of skills training sessions to prepare them for work, followed by a 4 week paid work placement at Royal Bank of Scotland/ NatWest in Gogarburn. It ran from March – May 2024.

This programme is now closed and we cannot accept further referrals.

Skills Sessions

Sessions supported young people to explore their key skills, develop a positive work mindset, and learn about career pathways, the workplace and applying for jobs.

The sessions took place at Youth Scotland, and ran two days a week for six weeks.

Mentoring

Young people were given 8 sessions of one to one mentor support to help them create a personal work profile, build a professional relationship, and set goals for the future.

Dates, times and locations were organised between the mentors and participants.

Work Experience

Young people attended work insight days and a work placement to exercise new skills and build confidence. This was paid at the National Living Wage.

Placements lasted for four weeks, full time (up to 35 hours depending on the placement) and were based in different departments of the Royal Bank of Scotland.

Who took part?

Young people aged 16-24 who are not in education or employment and were:

  • Near work-ready but lacked experience, confidence and networks.
  • Starting to develop soft skills and a work-ready attitude but whose needs had not been met through existing provision.
  • Interested in opportunities and further developing themselves.
  • Facing additional barriers, e.g. those who were care experienced, those with learning difficulties or young people with low levels of qualification.
  • A UK resident or holding the right to work in the UK.
