Young Placechangers

Do you have an idea to change the place where you live or hangout?

What are Young Placechangers?

The Young Placechangers programme is a two-year partnership programme between greenspace Scotland and Youth Scotland. It is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund Scotland and Scottish Government.

The programme will engage and empower young people to take the lead on changing the places where they live. The programme has three core elements:

  • Young people and youth workers will be given training both in residential settings and in local clusters
  • The Ideas Fund will support, and fund activity & deliver quick-wins
  • Support from peers and ‘place professionals’ will inspire and enthuse

Through peer facilitation and training the programme will give young people, and the youth workers and other adults that support them, the skills and confidence to engage with others in their communities to act to improve the environmental quality, biodiversity, playability and vibrancy of neighbourhoods – and, in the process, change attitudes and mindsets.

Interested? Then come to our residential weekend on 4th & 5th May 2019 in Stirling.

Book Now

All you need is a good idea for a placechanging project and 2-3 friends and a youth worker or adult who supports you to come with you. You can take part in a fantastic weekend of activities to help develop your idea and take them back to your group!

You will have the opportunity to apply for £500 to take action straight away and later you can even apply for up £3,000 for a bigger project.

We have space for up to 6 groups consisting of a youth worker/support adult and 2-3 young people in each group. Once you have been on the weekend you must include the rest of your youth group in the project you want to take forward.

Please note that you have to be between 12 and 25 years old to take part.

Young Placechangers Ideas Fund - second round deadline on the horizon

What would you like to change in your local area? Share your idea with us!

The second deadline of the Young Placechangers Ideas Fund is on 28 February

Young people and youth groups can apply to the Young Placechangers Ideas Fund for Seedcorn grants (up to £500) and larger Ideas Fund grants (up to £3000)

Young Placechangers puts young people in the lead role bringing together the wider community to look at local spaces, plan and deliver improvements.

Seedcorn projects so far have included improvement of local greenspaces used by young people, a family funday, a litter campaign and a treeplanting project. Projects all developed by young people to reach out to the wider community involving them in their local areas.

Developed by greenspace scotland and partners Youth Scotland, with funding support from the Scottish Government and Heritage Lottery Fund, the Young Placechangers Ideas Fund will support young placechangers across Scotland to put their ideas into action and change places for the better – where they live, play, hang out or go to school.
