Established over 80 years ago, Youth 1st is the leading support agency for youth organisations, youth groups, youth workers, volunteers and young people in Fife.
The core purpose of Youth 1st is to act as a hub of information and resources to support Fife’s youth groups and organisations and their youth workers who enable young people to realise their full potential. Each year a number of youth groups and organisations become members of Youth 1st. We currently have approximately 7000 young people throughout Fife attending over 180 different youth groups and organisations. Most of our member groups are organised and run by volunteers. Our highly experienced staff team offer support, advice, access to training and events to all our members across Fife. We are a valued Youth Work partner in both the Local and National Voluntary Youth Work Sectors and work closely with our partners in Fife Council, NHS Fife, Fife Voluntary Action and other agencies across Fife.
About the Role - B:activ Project Worker (12 hours per week):
We have secured funding to continue and expand on the success of the B:activ Project delivered in the pilot phase. The focus over the next two years will be to build on the good foundations laid since 2016, and firmly embed B:activ into our offer to members and young people. The Project Worker will support the B:Activ Co-ordinator in the delivery of the B:Activ project. The two key objectives of the project lie in Health Promotion and Young Volunteer development. As well as allowing Children and Young People to lead healthier lives, the B:Activ project will lead to improved skills, confidence and self-esteem, helping them to build healthy relationships in a supportive environment.
The Health Promotion aspect of the role is about delivery of physical activity, games and education sessions to Children and Young People. Day to day that could look like anything from working on a session plan in the office to delivering to groups of children. As well as that, the Project Worker will help coordinate health promotion projects such as stop smoking or healthy eating campaigns.
The Young Volunteer Programme is developing based on feedback from the original Young Volunteers, and will focus on skill development, accredited training courses and offering every opportunity to help them succeed in life. Part of the Project Worker’s role within this project will be helping to coordinate the programme as well as supporting the Young Volunteers through their training and skill development. As well as this the Project Worker will assist with the work of Youth 1st including helping the Network Support Team, supporting delivery of (and staffing) training sessions and any other reasonable duties.
Note from the B:activ Project Coordinator
Youth 1st have been fantastic in welcoming me into my role and providing every opportunity to better myself. There will be opportunities for training to help you upskill to complete your job but also to aid your personal development. Staff welfare is hugely important to them which just adds to the list of reasons they are a great non-profit to work for. See you in the interview room! - Scott Findlay
